EXPANDED PATH SERVICE OFFERED FOR NEW YEAR'S EVE

PATH will provide additional service Friday evening, December 31, and on Saturday morning, Jan. 1, according to Michael DePallo, Director and General Manager of the interstate rapid transit system.

"PATH's New Year's Eve service will be flexible and tailored to ridership patterns as they change throughout December 31 and January 1," Mr. DePallo said.

"We will have extra trains available and will put them into service according to demand. Customer service representatives will be on hand throughout the system to handle inquiries and to provide direction. Despite the extra service, however, passengers should expect some crowding in PATH cars and in stations," he said.

In addition to revelers coming into New York City for New Year's Eve, Mr. DePallo said, he expects significant numbers of employees to be reporting for work at various work sites throughout the region. He also said that rush-hour service will begin early on Thursday, December 30, to accommodate employees leaving work early.

At the Lincoln Tunnel, vehicles arriving in Manhattan on New Year's Eve may be detoured around the Times Square area as traffic conditions warrant. Construction at all Port Authority bridges and tunnels will be suspended for the holiday weekend.

At Port Authority airports, travelers should allow extra time because of increased security and limited parking, according to William DeCota, Director of Aviation. He advised travelers to call 800 AIR RIDE for the latest information on parking availability.
