JOURNAL SQUARE TURNS MAGICAL FOR HALLOWEEN

The Port Authority is transforming PATH's Journal Square Transportation Center in Jersey City into a Halloween playland for young witches, princesses, goblins, superheroes, vampires and pirates. The fun begins at 3 P.M. on Friday, October 30, on the Transportation Center's concourse.

"We are pleased to provide once again a safe and fun-filled haven for area schoolchildren to enjoy the spirit of Halloween and the treats of the day," said PATH Director and General Manager Michael P. DePallo. "Children and their parents have enjoyed this event for four consecutive years, and we're glad to offer our Halloween celebration for a fifth year. Costumes for children are encouraged but not necessary."

"Halloween at the Square 5" will be presented by PATH, the Jersey Journal, the Jersey City Department of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, Journal Square Restoration Corporation, Amtrak and 13 other Journal Square-area businesses.

Children up to age 10 accompanied by an adult are welcome. Port Authority Police will once again provide an opportunity for parents to have their children photographed and fingerprinted for safety. There will be a magic show, musical entertainment, face painting, and character appearances by Elmo and the Teletubbies, as well as prizes, activities and a costume contest. Brian Coleman, Director of the Journal Square Special Improvement District, and staff of the Jersey Journal will judge the costume contest.

PATH sponsors a series of community events throughout the year, such as the Farmers Market every Wednesday through Thanksgiving, the Summer Fun Concert series and PATH's holiday poster contest with Jersey City public schools.

PATH is the rail transit operating subsidiary of The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. It operates 24-hour service between terminals in Newark, Hoboken and lower and midtown Manhattan.
