From Addis Ababa, connecting service will be offered to more than two dozen other cities in Africa, and to destinations in the Middle East and Asia.
Port Authority Director of Aviation Robert J. Kelly said, "This new service will fill a need for business and pleasure travelers alike. I am delighted to welcome Ethiopian Airlines, and proud that we will be offering this important new service to Africa. The decision by Ethiopian Airlines underscores the strength of our air travel market, and the attractiveness of our metropolitan region to visitors from around the globe."
Flights will leave on Wednesdays and Saturdays at noon, and fly direct to the Ethiopian capital. They will arrive in Addis Ababa the following morning.
Newark is only the second U.S. destination for the 52-year-old airline. It inaugurated service to Washington, D.C. last June.
