PLANE GUIDED BY GLOBAL POSITIONING SYSTEM TO DEBUT AT NEWARK INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

The first commercial flight guided by global positioning satellite technology, which can help reduce aircraft delays and community noise impacts, will arrive at Newark International Airport on Monday September 21, at 11:15 A.M. The Port Authority purchased and installed the ground station for the new system.

The flight, a Continental Airlines MD-80, will taxi to Gate 120 at Terminal C, where a news conference will be held following its arrival. Newark Airport General Manager Susan Baer will join officials of Continental, Honeywell, Inc., and the Federal Aviation Administration at the news conference.
