118-99: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE , October 13, 1999
During construction, Mondays through Thursdays from 9 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Fridays from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M., drivers are asked to use the upper level of the bridge. The project will affect an 800-foot section of the concrete roadway that connects the span's eastbound lower level to the covered roadway under the apartments. Work will continue through November.
Work has been scheduled to avoid any disruption to drivers going to or from Yankee Stadium. Work will end well before the start of a night game, and resume well after the end of the game. If an afternoon game is scheduled, construction will be canceled for the day.
During construction hours, delays are expected to be up to 30 minutes on the eastbound lower level.
Motorists are advised to listen to radio traffic reports for up-to-the-minute delay information.
Drivers should exercise caution as they traverse this area due to a rough riding surface. The road connects the bridge to the Cross-Bronx and Major Deegan expressways and the Harlem River Drive.
Once surface preparation is completed, paving will be performed on weekends. The bridge's lower level has been subject to weekend closures for paving since late August. The schedule for lower-level closures will continue to be Friday and Saturdays from 10 P.M. until 10 o'clock the following morning. Delays of approximately 30 minutes have been experienced late Friday evening and on Saturday mornings.
