TRAFFIC ADVISORY -- PAVING RESUMES AT GWB ON FRIDAY, SEPT. 10

A $2.5 million paving project that will mean a smoother ride for drivers using the lower level of the George Washington Bridge will resume this Friday, September 10, at 10 P.M., when the eastbound lower level will be closed for paving.

The closings take place from 10 P.M. on Friday until 10 A.M. on Saturday, and from 10 P.M. on Saturday until 10 A.M. on Sunday. Delays of 30 minutes or more are expected on Friday night starting at 10 o'clock, Saturday morning starting at 8 o'clock and Saturday night starting at 10 o'clock.

During the first phase of this project, the eastbound approach road to the lower level received a new, smooth asphalt surface. The second phase work, on the lower level, will continue on the eastbound roadway through early winter and may resume in the spring of 2000.

Motorists should consider alternate routes and travel times, and listen to radio traffic reports.

For weekly construction schedules, motorists can also call the Port Authority's Customer Connection: 800.221.9903 (TTY: 800.733.8899). They can also check the Port Authority's Web site for up-to-date work schedules.

This is the second weekend of work on the project. The first was August 27-28.
